3D Printer Buyers Guide

Looking for the best 3D printer on the market? If so, you are at the right place. During their inception, 3D printers were initially created primarily for making product prototypes, but their use has evolved. 3D printers are now being used not only for the creation of prototypes but also for printing of hobby models and toys. However, unlike conventional 2D printers, the selection criterion for 3D printers tends to be somehow complicated. The vast investment in the field has resulted in the availability of cheap 3d printer, hence the best time to own one. This said the following overview of tips on buying a 3D printer would help shed more light on this.

Buying 3D printers

Printing technology

This is perhaps one of the most important factors to consider when selecting a 3D printer. There are 3 major types of 3D printing technologies in existence.

kvkaslvnkansdvklkasdvnlkasnvlnasldkvnlkasdvsadvasdvFused deposition modeling – 3D printers using these type of technology make use of an additive process during printing. Also known as FDM printing, this process entails the printer heating the plastic after which the plastic is extruded and layer does the printing layer. Most commercial 3D printers make use of this technique

Stereo lithography – in this technique, a UV light beam is used to harden the printing material which is in the form of a photosensitive liquid. The hardened material is then extruded and used for printing the 3D model. This technique is used in instances where high-quality, precise printing is required and as a norm tends to be quite expensive.

Selective laser sintering – SLS uses a high precision laser beam for a higher degree of precision printing: instead of UV light. The printing material is usually in powder form, and the laser beam melts the powder before it is used to create models. SLS printing technology is the most expensive.

When making your selection of a 3D printer, it is important to consider the nature of your project to be able to make the best choice based on the printing technology. For hobby 3D prints, a 3D printer with FSD technology is recommended due to its low price. However, for higher precision professional work, stereo lithography or SLS 3D printers come highly recommended

Bed type

The printer bed is where a model is going to be built up during the printing process. As a rule, the model should remain fixed on the print bed during the printing process to avoid warping. You can opt to apply some glue on the printer bed before you start the printing process or better still go for a heated printer-bed 3D printer as opposed to a non-heated bed 3D printer.

With a heated bed 3D printer, the printer bed is preheated and as such the model gets attached to the printing bed throughout the printing process: preventing warping when it cools. However, this will also depend on the material being used for printing

Multicolor or single color?

This is also an important factor to consider when it comes to tips on buying 3D printers. Multicolor printers have the capacity to print more than one color within a single print job while single color printers can only print one color during a print job. However, this is dependent on personal preference and project specifications

Printer speed

Printer speed also comes into play during the selection process. However, it is important to note that 3D printer prices also vary depending on the speed with high-speed models costing more.

Filament type

skldanvklsndlknvaslkdnvksandvnasldnvlkasndvlasdvasdFilament is the material used for 3D printing. There are many types of filaments available for 3D printers but not every 3D printer accepts all types of filaments. Some of the most common filaments include ABS filament which requires a heated printer bed, Polylactic acid filament: does not require a heated printer bed and even carbon fiber filament which produces very strong prints.Always ensure that the 3D printer you wish to purchase is compatible with the type of filament you want to use.

By considering the above tips on buying a 3D printer, you are assured of getting the best 3D printer for your use.…
